On June 29, 2007 Apple introduced the world to the iPhone. For just $399 you could get the 4GB version or for $499 you could get double the capacity with 8GB. Millions of consumers hit up Apple stores, Apple online and AT&T stores nationwide to be one of the first to get their hands on an iPhone.

But what exactly is the iPhone and why on earth is it so popular? Well, the iPhone is a combination of three products, it is a mobile phone, an iPod, and pocket Internet access. The mobile in and of itself isn't too spectacular but it has a touch screen and allows for text and picture messaging as well as regular calls.

The iPod portion of the iPod is considered the best yet from Apple and a look into what future generations of the iPod might include. The screen is 3.5 inches and you can do most of the stuff in either portrait or landscape view, however videos are landscape only. With this much larger iPod screen you can view pictures and lists of music much easier than with any other iPod.

The camera that is included on the iPhone is a nice digital camera of 2MP. When most other phones are still around 1.5 MP, this is a great improvement. The only drawbacks are the iPhone does not take video as well, and there is no flash to lighten pictures with.

The iPhone version of the iPod also includes much easier scrolling and searching for songs to play, and uses the touch screen instead of the normal circle controls for easier navigation. Although a regular iPod can now come with as much as 160GB of space, the iPhone only has up to 16GB, but this is still an improvement over other cell phones. Most other cell phones cap at 4GB. 16GB of space allows you to carry up to 4,000 songs.

There are applications for it to be able to easily browse FaceBook, Myspace, Ebay and many more of the most visited sites. The Internet surfing browser for the iPhone is Safari, which is included on most Apple products that surf the web. It is one of the top browsers that makes Internet surfing fast and easy for the regular consumer and that is one of the reasons Apple put it on the iPhone.

You can check your email from almost anywhere around the world, and you can send email as well. This makes the iPhone great for business people who used to have to have a laptop with them almost always in order to be able to answer email.

The iPhone has just about all the features one person could need while they are traveling or going about their regular day. Between texting, email, Internet surfing, making and taking phone calls and listening to your favorite kind of music the Apple iPhone is your computer away from home, just about the smallest and most convenient way of going about a regular day without a laptop tied to your side.
