Certain technology capabilities have allowed the user to modify the Apple iPod and turn it into a universal remote. In fact, it can be used to control various home electronic equipment in your house.

Use a Pocket PC to record the waves the infrared remote produces. Then transfer these waves onto your iPod so you can start changing your television channels. To make this happen, you need an iPod, they personal computer with sound recording software installed, a Pocket PC, total remote software and IR device.

Install the total remote software onto your computer to extend the range of your Pocket PC. Then record the infrared signal with a sound editing program such as Soundforge. Input the signals into your PC by using the software. You know you've got it right if you hear weird beeps and pulses.

Then convert the signal into wave files and make a new playlist on your iPod with those wave files. You can now test to see if it worked by playing the sounds through the converter.
