Mp3 Audio Book
The audio book industry is a rising star, thanks in part to the popularity of mp3 players. Audio book sales have been estimated at $87 million last year with an expected sales projection near $2 billion in the near future. Today's culture demands a fast paced lifestyle and more and more people are turning to audio books versus printed books for the portability and multitasking nature of mp3 audio books. Just look around at the nearest mall or schoolyard and you will notice a shocking number of mp3 players in use. For many of our more long-standing citizens, the rise of yet another technology gadget may go unnoticed, but the sales trends show that mp3 players and audio books are here to stay.
An mp-what?
What does "mp3 "mean? Mp3 stands for MPEG audio layer 3 and is a format that compresses digital content down to a very small size. The technology was developed by the Fraunhofer Institute in Germany. The Fraunnhofer Institute was founded in 1949 with only three employees and is now a leading research company in Europe. Popular mp3 subjects are audio books, music, newspapers, movies and radio programs. Apple markets its own brand of mp3 downloads at its popular iTunes store and also offers free "pod casts" on various subjects from many sources. Your local church or writers club may even have their own pod casts available.
Mp3 players are a favorite among teens and young adults. Some best sellers are: Apple's iPod, Creative Zen, SanDisk Sansa, Microsoft's Zune and iRiver Clix. Mp3 players range widely in price depending on the desired features and clay play music, movies, display pictures or play mp3 formatted audio books. They can be purchased online and at electronics stores and department stores across the nation.
Where to Find Them
Mp3 downloads are bountiful on the internet. A quick query with your favorite search engine will result in hundreds of choices. Publishing companies, book stores, audio book clubs and personal web sites can be an excellent source for mp3 audio books. Some public libraries are even offering an mp3 section in their online card catalogs. Microsoft and Apple both offer popular online stores to purchase mp3 audio books.
Mp3 players and audio books are a welcome addition to homes across the country. Any product that helps to ease the time crunch that we all feel is bound to be a winner. The question is: "Do you own any mp3 audio books yet?" They may become a very welcome addition to your home as well.
