Sidekick 3
The Sidekick has won worldwide popularity with young crowds who want a phone to revolve around their social life. The newest version of this favorite is the Sidekick 3. This version is similar to the last one, but is loaded with new improvements. Are you the type of person who sends a hundred different messages from your phone a day? This phone is full of new ways to make your life easier. If it's quick and easy messaging capabilities that you are looking for, then this may be the phone for you.
Although the Sidekick is in no way a sexy phone, it does have a new sleek black and silver look. The keys are a bit closer than before, but not so close though that you make mistakes. There is a new trackball on the new phone that allows you to select items from side to side as well as up and down. The keyboard on this phone is a great feature in itself. It is back-lit so that you can send emails and text quickly and easily in low light conditions. This model is also sporting a dedicated number key.
The Sidekick 3 comes with a few new features worth mentioning. It now has EDGE. For those who don't know, this makes it super quick to load pages full of images; as well as downloading stuff much faster. The phone also comes with its own email account, you even get alerts when you receive a new message.
You can now open documents, PDFs, and JPEGs, although you can not edit them. It also conveniently comes with AOL, Yahoo!, and MSN Messenger (capable of holding 10 conversations). You can hold an amazing 2,000 contacts in your address book. This includes five fields per entry, an email address, an IM account, web URL, street address, and notes about the person. The new version also has an MP3 player.
There is a camera on the Sidekick 3, but in reality it is not much improved on. It has 1.3 mega pixels, but no video. You can take pictures in three different sizes, holding 131 of the largest size. There is very little editing available on this phone. The pictures are not print quality but you can have fun setting up a slide show on your phone for friends.
There are of course a few drawbacks to the Sidekick 3. One, they did not add a new screen to the list of new features. As a result the screen needs a higher resolution. It looks dull, pictures and text are not as clear and bright as other phones. Two, only the send and email keys are back-lit on the phone surface. Another thing that was disappointing is that if you dial a number not in you address book then you have to open the keyboard to dial then shut it again to use the phone.
As far as messenger phones go this one is a nice choice. It is certainly not a corporate cell phone but for the younger kids and adults it could be a best friend. It has good call quality as well as a list of great features to make this a great messaging gadget, and phone.
