Treo 755p
The Treo 755p is the latest in the line of Treo Palm Pilots. There are very few additions to the new phone. In fact, it is practically the same phone as the 700. For this reason most Treo users will probably choose not to upgrade to this phone. Besides, there is a new Treo phone that is due for possible release in July of this year that is Linux-based. For this reason many think that the Treo 755p is geared to just bring in new Palm users.
The new phone is a little bit slimmer than the last one. Although it is still not small enough to put in your pocket, it is easy to hold due to the new concave sides. The keys are still the same as before, which is disappointing because the keys are very close together making it difficult to type. One positive note is that the 320×320 screen is very easy to see indoors and out. The Treo has many more pixels then most phones do, making everything very clear. Unfortunately, you can not see more due to the text being so large.
This phone has an excellent signal. Most people who use it claim that they always had reception (at least two bars), even in places other phones lost all reception. It is also considered one of the best when it comes to call sound. The sound is clear and crisp on both the calling and receiving end. The ring and speaker phone were good as well, but not as good as the earpiece. The ring tone unfortunately did not fair as well. In order to hear the ringer in a quiet room it needed to be turned up past halfway. The vibrating tone was also weak, making it hard to notice if you had the volume down.
There are two applications for messaging. One is for email and another for SMS. The email is relatively simple, with a traditional inbox, rather than threaded. This application is only for one email account, but you do get email alerts like any other phone of this type. The SMS is set up like an IM with threaded messaging. This allows you to carry on the same text conversation as with an IM. If you want to send a different message you just open another one.
The music player on the Treo 755p is from a third party. It is called Party Tunes. This music player is very similar to Windows Media Player. It displays the current track and artist along with the on screen controls and your playlist. The drawback to Party Tunes is that it only plays MP3, WMA, and Ogg Vorbis. It will not play AACs. The camera on this phone leaves much to be desired. It only has 1.3 mega pixels and practically no options. There is not even a flash or night mode. The picture quality is very low as well, and there are no special effects to add either.
Although this phone is very similar to the Treo 700, it may be a good choice for first time buyers. If you are a faithful user already, however; you may want to wait for the new version to come out in July as it should have more changes.
